I’ve been a member of “Watar” for about three years. To me it’s one of the most interesting ensembles I’m involved with, as our entire repertoire is made up of original work composed by the kanun and oud players.
Their compositions present a fresh and unexpected direction in the development of classical Arabic music. I see it as a combination of the vast Arabic musical tradition with western modern composition techniques.
The ernsemble has performed on many stages in Israel and abroad, including the 2008 Jerusalem Oud Festival and the 2009 Steirisches Kammermusik Festival in Austria.
